Did you sign the appropriate permission forms?
a. For your bookkeeper to speak to your accountant?

It is recommended that a bookkeeper and accountant document the working arrangement, client privacy and liability arrangements. You are at risk if there are differing perceptions of the arrangement and nothing is in writing

Instances are known of bookkeepers sending client data to be processed in countries such as the Philippines and India or using other third party accountants, without client knowledge or permission.

b. For your bookkeeper to lodge your BAS?

A business owner must provide a bookkeeper with a written and signed declaration for each business activity statement they lodge on their behalf. The declaration must be made before the business activity statement is lodged.

The declaration must state that the information provided to process the BAS is true and correct, that you are authorising release of the BAS to the Commissioner, and your bookkeeper is authorised to provide this information.

It should also include the name of the client and the represented entity, the date, the bookkeepers name and the timeframe the BAS relates to.

Third party processing may not comply with tax law requirements.
