Australian Association of Professional Bookkeepers Ltd (AAPB) is a not-for-profit public company limited by guarantee (ACN 113 709 934) comprising of a Board of Directors, Industry Sub Committees and Administrative Team.
AAPB was formed to promote Bookkeeping as a recognised profession in Australia.
Our objective is to raise, promote and support the professional bookkeeping industry via a range of programmes including, education, quality management and communication.
A schedule of public seminars, professional development and training workshops will be delivered from 2006. Information will be emailed to members and advertised via the association website.
We understand that members may have concerns about their privacy, confidentiality and security of information that AAPB receives.
Our policy is to protect members’ privacy and personal information that may be collected.
AAPB complies with the requirements of the Privacy Act, 1988 and the National Privacy Principles included in the Privacy Act (Private Sector) Amendment Act 2000.
Personal information is collected by AAPB for the primary purpose of membership qualification requirements. AAPB collects details such as your name, address, telephone and facsimile numbers, email address, gender, age, education and work experience.
A hard copy file containing the member’s application and entry details are retained in a secure location in accordance with the act and for a further seven years in accordance with current Federal and State legislation governing document retention, before being destroyed.
Failure to provide the information sought by AAPB for the purposes detailed may not enable the organisation to complete the membership process or any specific service requested. AAPB may not be able to include you in an event or assign benefits to you as a member.
To prevent unauthorised access to your information, AAPB has in place computer and network security, including password protection processes.
Only staff authorised by the Chief Executive Officer have access to the data file information.
Hard copies of any information are stored in locked cabinets within a secure office.
A member’s personal information will only be used or disclosed by AAPB as allowed by the Privacy Act 1988 and the National Privacy Principles included in the Privacy Amendment (Private Sector) Act, 2000.
To facilitate AAPB delivering better services and benefits to its members, personal information collected may be shared with other organisations.
Further, to conduct AAPB operations, AAPB occasionally engages independent operators and parties. Accordingly, some of this information may be used or disclosed in part by AAPB to:
- enable mail contractors to deliver documents and communications to members;
- officers of a government law enforcement agency in connection with the lawful performance of their duty;
- a debt collection agency for financial default purposes;
- send direct mail to members with news of special offers or the availability of new products or services;
- external advisors, including the associations representative body for the purposes of outsourcing the processing and servicing of member cheques and the processing of member credit card payments.
If you do not consent to any of the disclosures above then you can write and advise AAPB at its office address.
AAPB will then ensure that your personal information is not used for this purpose. This exemption cannot apply where AAPB is required by law to provide such disclosure.
If you do not object to the uses or disclosures as stated above, AAPB will accept this as having received your express consent.
For member access to your association site, we ask for your email address, name, a login and a password.
We do not show your email address on the site. Your name is used instead wherever it is appropriate to credit authorship.
We will only record your e-mail address if you send us a message or supply it as part of your user activity. It will only be used for the purpose for which you provide it, and will not be added to a mailing list unless you request that this be done. We will not disclose it further without your consent or if required to do so for legal reasons.
When you browse our site, we track all pages that are viewed. This information is available minimally through the web server logs and is recorded within the system that powers the site.
If you are logged in, we can associate your browsing with your membership details. Otherwise, you are treated as an anonymous browser.
If you are concerned about identification, you should not login to the site.
This site may contain links to other sites. We are not responsible for the privacy practices or the content of such web sites.
Our website uses cookies to obtain session details for access to parts of our site. Cookies are essential in providing a seamless access to our range of services. Cookie information is not further stored or collected by us. If you choose not to accept cookies from this site, you will not be able to maintain a session-based interaction with the site and will be treated as an anonymous browser.
Members may, upon written request, access the personal information AAPB has obtained from membership application forms and the related product or service forms that it currently holds. To the extent possible, AAPB will let you access your personal information. However, there are times where the organisation is not in position to do so (eg. where it would be unlawful to do so). If AAPB denies you access to this information, AAPB will notify you of this refusal and the basis for it.
To cover administration costs of providing access to your personal information a charge may be applied. If so, the charge will be $100.00.

AAPB endeavours to ensure that personal information held is accurate, complete and up-to-date.
Where you believe that personal information held by AAPB is not accurate, complete or up-to-date, then advise AAPB and every effort will be made to correct the information.
